The fog played in and out all day.
And dang! Now it’s over! We had the best time ever in Mendocino and Little River Inn over the weekend. We arrived around 5:30 – a bit later than I was hoping, but oh well. We made it! The drive is always beautiful – oh yes I forgot, we were going to fly in the Baron but guess what – the Little River Airport was closed for repaving and some lighting work. Lovely timing;) However I love the drive and it made no difference to me, Rob just loves his plane;) We checked in and found that MY SNEAKY NAUGHTY MOTHER had called the day before and put up her credit card for most everything! Oh brother – she is incorrigible. I think it was payback for her birthday party – but you know what? Payback always begets payback soooooo watch out there Mom;)

Hiking on the Mendocino Coast
We drove down the road to the Llama Cottage and upon entering found lovely flowers, chocolate and a really nice note from Cammie the Public Relations Rep. who had actually read this blog and wanted to thank me for mentioning the Inn. (Wow! Someone besides my Mom actually reads my little blog of blather? Wonderful!:) She offered to take us to breakfast but we couldn’t quite hook up – but thank you for the lovely offer!

Our private yard at the Llama Cottage
Went back off down the road to the Inn to the best dinner ever – Calimari, bouillabaisse and caesar salad and yum yum yum… We were loving it. They do have the most wonderful restaurant. We ate most our meals there as we were too lazy and happy to go anywhere else;) Back to the cottage for a soak in the hot tub under the stars. That was nice as even though we have a hot tub that is also outside under the stars – we seldom use it because we have to W A L K way, way over there to get in. Rethinking about where to put the tub when we build the new house – note to self – closer to the house.
The next day we hiked and shopped and ate and visited the Mendocino Botanical Gardens. So amazing – it’s different every time we go, new things in bloom. We stopped by the a festival in Caspar and listened to some music. A very fun day.

The Garden Gate at the Botanical Gardens
What I liked most about Little River Inn:
- The Food – it is fabulous!
- The bathrobes hanging in the closet for us to use
- The privacy of the Llama Cottage – just like home but better
- The weather – it was perfect. I wore a tank top all Saturday – how often does that happen in Mendocino;)
- The Llamas – yes, they let us pet them
- The beautiful gardens and flowers – ours at home are all spent and theirs are still going strong
- How quick and easy it is to relax
- The people – all friendly and super nice and helpful – this should be further up on the list as we found everyone delightful
- The fog horn that we could hear at night
- The new memories – the last time we were there it was for my co-workers (Vince Whiteley) and his in-laws memorial service, a very, very sad event. It was very nice to be there for fun and relaxation instead this time.
On our way home Sunday we decided to go over Comptchee – Ukiah road. Neither of us had ever been to Comptchee and well, now I know why – it’s a blink and miss kind of place. Very beautiful though. We saw a large group of cars parked at the local Baptist church, so I know that there are lots of people who live out there. When we got to 101 heading south we decided to stop at a winery that we had never been to north of Hopland – Nelson Family Winery. It was great! We bought a case of their Zinfandel, let’s see how long that lasts;)
We did not take any dogs with us this time – a first! I gotta admit I missed them but it was so nice not to have to TAKE CARE OF SOMETHING/SOMEONE ELSE while trying to relax. Ahhhhh, I can’t wait to go back.

Two Happy Clams

Look! I survived the wait – the l o n g l o n g wait. The weather should be great – Jaff arrived home today to babysit all the pets – Paul has offered to feed the horses… All our ducks are lined up and ready to go. Last weekend we worked our asses off getting ready so we could get away this weekend. We fixed the horse pasture fence – well half of it anyway, and did a million other little things that there is never enough time (or enthusiasm) to get done. Looking pretty good!
Try this just for fun – I love it!

I am deeply saddened to have lost a good man and good friend. Cliff Kendall took his own life yesterday due to anxiety about an upcoming lay off. I know he had known about the layoffs for a while, it has been all over the paper and it’s a small community – people talk… but it’s so sad that this just pushed him over the edge. I just don’t think the problems that he might have had justify suicide. It’s just not right. I’m so sorry for his wife and kids now. What a loss, what a shame. Cities need to take better care of their budgets and behave more professionally. Who knows if something else might have eventually triggered his suicide, but in this case it was definitely the layoff which triggered the depression, and which could possibly have been prevented with better city planning. In my humble opinion. We will miss you Cliff. God’s peace.

1. PBS has a short video on Sarah Palin on their website. Also included is a poll that asks: Is Sarah Palin qualified to be VP?
I logged on a few minutes ago and 54% percent had voted YES, 46% NO.
Let’s turn this around….. You don’t have to give your name or email address in order to vote. It’s very simple.
I just voted and it’s currently 51% Yes 47% No
Took less than 5 seconds!
Here’s the link: http://www.pbs.org/now/polls/poll-435.html
2. A brilliant idea for $10 (or whatever you can afford)
Instead of (in addition to?) us all sending around more emails about how horrible she is, let’s all make a donation to Planned Parenthood.
In Sarah Palin’s name.
And here’s the good part: when you make a donation to PP in her name, they’ll send her a card telling her that the donation has been made in her honor. Here’s the link to the Planned Parenthood website:
https://secure.ga0.org/02/pp10000_inhonor
You’ll need to fill in the address to let PP know where to send the “in Sarah Palin’s honor” card. I suggest you use the address for the McCain campaign headquarters, which is:
McCain for President
1235 S. Clark Street
1st Floor
Arlington , VA 22202
PS make sure you use that link above or choose the pulldown of Donate–”Honorary or Memorial Donations”, not the regular “Donate Online”.

Scary, no?

Ohhhhh I did not want to get up this morning! Seriously thought about taking the day off, but no here I am at work AGAIN;) I won’t be here next Friday so this day has got to happen. I am hoping for rain sometime today. It’s been soooooooo long and we are soooooooo dry. It was sunny and bright earlier but now it is clouding over and looks promising for a bit of precipitation. Last year at almost the same date we had a wedding at our house, an outside wedding. And guess what! It rained! As soon as the bride stepped out of the car it started to pour. We sat there shivering through the ceremony and as soon as Jim kissed Angelica all those construction guys and engineer guys jumped up and turned our yard into a tented homeless encampment! It was amazing. All the table clothes and napkins were ruined – paper, but the party roared on and we danced till the wee hours. Turned out just fine. Some said that having it rain on your wedding is good luck. I think that may be true.

We were lucky enough to be invited by our great friends Cathy and Larry to the Big Night at Bovolo the other night. What a treat! Margarita pizza and homemade salami, fingerling potaoes and prime rib, champagne, great wines and great conversation. Bovolo is located inside Copperfields Bookstore in Healdsburg. Bovolo is part of the slow food movement which emphasizes using local produce and the concept of eco-gastronomy. I just love it. Here we were at long tables winding through a most wonderful bookstore seated next to new people who love to eat as much as we do. It was a blast, my three favorite things, good friends, good food and good BOOKS!
I have kind of a funny story that connects to the restaurant. Last winter Jaffray and I were driving down the road that leads to our house and we came upon a very nice woman who had a flat tire – in the POURING rain. We gave her a ride to Windsor to meet her daughter who would help her out- said daughter is Duskie Estes one of the owners of Bovolo. When Jaff and I were returning from doing our errands there was the tow truck fixing the flat – AND jumping Duskies car battery as now they were BOTH broken down. Oh brother;) So I got to see Carole (the mom) again and officially meet Duskie. It made me feel really good that we were able to help someone out when they needed it. And they survived;)

So I finally broke down and joined Facebook. I don’t know what good it will do me except that my dearest friend Christine is my one friend and we can chat to each other whenever we log on. But we email anyway so I don’t know if it’s really going to help or is it just another way to while away the hours till I get to go home. Still have to WORK you know;) Hopefully my other chick buddies will sign up as well and then I can have several friends. That would be nice.

Lemon Drop looking better all the time.
Well here is the new and improved Lemon Drop. I don’t know how much weight she’s gained but it is substantial. She still has a ways to go but I think she is beginning to look awfully darn good. Her scratches and bite marks are slowly disappearing, of course new ones are appearing on Pixel and Chelsea – thanks to George (the Bastard). I am going to add a photo of her from before just to compare.

Lemon Drop Arrives in Healdsburg, skinny, skinny, skinny...
