Back at work after 4 wonderful days off. We slept in till after 11am every day! It was wonderful, I almost began to feel human again! And then Rob got sick yesterday. He did not even hardly get out of bed which is very unlike him. I’m still coughing but I am improving slowly but surely.
We got Betsy back from heat camp today! Now we can finally take our Christmas photo and send out cards, nothing like a little bit of late holiday cheer;) She lost a few pounds – they just run and play all day. Funny thing was as I was walking out the door of the clinic, here was Mary Helen from our puppy class with Raven coming in! Raven just went in to heat today! Very funny to meet them there like that – what are the odds?
On my way back from picking up Betsy’s leash and cape and collar my car suddenly overheated and I had to pull off the road and call my knight in shining armor, Rob. Hopefully it won’t be too expensive to fix:( Well that’s what Christmas bonuses are for right? Dang.

Still hacking away but at least I feel like my brain isn’t on the morgue table any more. I can’t wait for this to be over with! Had a lovely early Christmas dinner yesterday in Walnut Creek with all the family. Very fun and food filled. Even got some good news today — I got a raise! Wonderful, especially in these times of economic strife. Our company is still doing well and I am very, very grateful. Merry Christmas to all and I hope that the new year brings good things to all.

I am so sick of coughing. My stomach muscles hurt – who needs to do situps when you can cough your way to sore abs anyway! Yesterday was particularly bad. I finally got back to work – maybe that was a mistake because when I got home I was absolutely exhausted. I went out to feed the horses, came back and started the rice for dinner, walked by the bathroom – noticed the toilet seat was up (some pets think this is there personal punchbowl, yuck!) went in to close it, noticed that some pet had POOPED! in the bathtub, AAACKKK!!! So I clean it up, sterilize it all, come out to find that the rice has boiled all over and created a huge mess. I turn down the heat on the rice, go sit down to hack, hack, cough and read my book. Hacking away I forget about the rice and it burns to shit. I call R and leave a message saying please pick up a pizza – I am having a very bad day and I burned dinner. R gets home – no pizza – he did not listen to my message. He goes back out, gets pizza. We eat, all is fine. We go to bed, I wake up around 3:30 am coughing, choking, dying…. I take the last drop of Robitussin we have in the house and the last drop of Nyquil and finally pass out. Wake up at 8:38am – LATE. SHIT!!!! I HATE being sick! I am a zombie today. Ugh.

Last night when Betsy and I got home I noticed a few little droplets of dark colored liquid on the floor. Yup, Betsy has gone in to heat. We are very bummed as this means she probably won’t be able to be with us for Christmas. CCI requires that when females go into season that they are housed at the CCI facility for 21 days – they don’t want any other boy dogs to get in there and spoil things. So I called Rob to have him pick up “something” to keep our floors clean – he came home with toddler pullups which actually worked pretty well. She looked pretty funny in them. I wonder how they deal with all those girl puppies running around making a mess. I am actually glad I don’t have to deal with it but I have also lost my little buddy who goes with me everywhere. She is probably having a ball. We call it ‘Heat Camp’ for lack of a better name;) Miss you Betsy!

We spent 9 hours driving in the car to Fresno and back for Grandma’s memorial service last Friday. Ugh. 4.5 hours each way. That’s some serious driving, most in dense thick fog. Which is why we couldn’t fly. Dang. Glad to be back north where we actually have some decent sunshine today. I remember living in the valley during winter, that’s why I live where I do now, I do like to see the sun once in awhile. It was good to see R’s cousins etc. All good people.
Saturday we got to have a test flight on a Cirrus, a very cool airplane, glass panel, the works. It was a beautiful plane that I believe runs a bout a half mil. R is thinking of buying one with partners for the flight school. It also has a joystick rather than the traditional yoke. It’s a lot of money, but it is a lot of plane…

Rob’s cousins wonderful Grandmother passed away last Friday, I believe she was 92. Marjorie Bankhead was one of the best people on this planet and she will be greatly missed by her friends and family. She allowed me the honor of calling her Grandma. I met Grandma several years ago in La Jolla at her daughter Nancy’s house. Poor Nancy had just lost her husband and we were down for the memorial service. I have never felt so welcomed by anyone in my life. Grandma and Nancy just took me right in, hugs and all. She was a wonderful, wonderful woman. We got to attend her 90th birthday party a couple of years ago, she had a blast. The last time I saw her was at Rob’s moms memorial up at our house, and she looked great. (lots of memorial services – what’s up with that?;) My real Granmother was kind of loon so I really appreciated Marjorie. Thank you Grandma for adopting me, I will miss you.

Well today is Rob’s and Betsy’s birthday – they share the same day. Betsy is turning one year old today – Rob is… ahem… 54 years older than she is, and I’m not saying exactly how old that might be;)

Betsy Hard At Work In My Office - Happy Birthday Birthday Girl!
We even have puppy class tonight so she will get to see her buddies on her birthday. Poor Rob is having to be in second place this time. We will go somewhere nice for dinner though and I will make sure he has a good time.
My coworkers even brought cupcakes and ‘Frosty Paws’ doggy ice cream for her. Isn’t that nice? She had such a great time with it she had to take a nap after – very exciting for a one year old!

My friend Cathy wrote a post that is much better than I could have summing up a wine tasting event that we all had fun attending together – so I’m just going to let her tell it. We did go to dinner afterwards at the Swiss Hotel in Sonoma. It was delish:)
