Road Trip to Oregon

We are leaving tomorrow for Oregon, McMinnville to be exact. We are going to a wedding reception and I am really looking forward to the road trip. I do love the convenience of flying but I also really enjoy the scenery at ground level.  The couple that is holding the reception got married a couple of months ago in Hawaii. Just family attending and now the big celebration after wards, fun!

We got Betsy’s turn in date in the mail a couple of days ago. We give her back to CCI for advanced training on May 30th. Not looking forward to that day at all. We are planning to get a new puppy a couple weeks before that if one is available, (to ease the pain;). I really think Betsy has a good chance of becoming a full fledged service dog and it will be VERY difficult to give her up when the time comes. I will miss that little snore she makes when she’s asleep, and even the wet nose… but not the mounds of hair;)

Winter Wineland 2009

We had a great time at the Winter Wineland this weekend. This is our third year on the bus tour and it truly is a blast. We even have two trumpeters who signal when it is time for us all to head back to the bus to move on  to the next winery. The food is great, the company was great and the weather was fantastic. I could not tell you how many wineries we visited but it was quite a few. I sure love not having to drive!

Here is alist on the ones I remember – there were so many I’m sure I’m leaving a few out:

Really liked the new Trione Winery – they have redone the old stone building that was the original winery and it is gorgeous. The oysters they offered were fabulous as well. Yum. And I am not really that crazy about oysters! We missed a couple of good friends this year – Cath and Larry:( Hopefully next time?

One of my favorites is Bella – they always have something fun going on, and always the huge pans of paella cooking outside. And their gift shop in the caves is to die for. Love it. We all ended the evening by chomping down on some great food at The Bear Republic – our local brewery. Next is Passport in April – looking forward to that as well! We took Betsy our CCI puppy with us and she did great! She is sooooo different than Rista.

Teenager Update: Still not home – she says maybe Wednesday or Thursday. Grrrrr….

Teenagers!

I am not very happy with my daughter right now. She went up to visit her boyfriend at his parents in Oregon over a week ago. This is yet another boyfriend we have never met. I told her she should be back in a week. And. Well. It’s been a lot longer than that. I am embarrssed that she is putting this boys parents out for so long! She doesn’t want to hear it though, she won’t return my calls, and if I do get her on the phone she has to go. Today she called and said that her phone was broken – she was calling from Andrews phone. She needed her password to get  new one and did I know it? Hell no! That’s her phone for God’s sake. I asked her when she was coming home and she said she had to go and would call me right back. That was 4 hours ago. Teenagers – driving me crazy! I am mortified by what his parents must think of R and I. Ugh.

A Very Close Call

This last Saturday R and I went flying – he said we needed to fly the plane for a minimum of 1 hour after he’s had some work done on it. So we thought to fly up to Arcata and have lunch and then fly home. We took off and immediately started smelling fuel. Well, we had just topped the tanks off – over 100 gallons! So that might be it and we just kept going. We were still smelling it after 45 minutes of flying so decided to land in Willits and take a look. Couldn’t really tell anything so we bailed on the trip to Arcata and decided to go back to Santa Rosa. We were in contact with the tower – they knew where we were and and we had permission to land. About 8 mile out R looks to his left and yells “Holy Shit!” There was a plane 50 feet from us out of nowhere! Rob pulled on the yoke and we went up and out of range thank God! It was over in a flash – I mean we are traveling about 160 mph. That was an almost mid-air collision! We both just looked at each other and shook our collective heads. He radioed the tower and let them know what happened and when we got back we went over to the tower – after we each had lunch and a REALLY BIG beer;) They did not know who it was but at least we are here to tell the tale. I feel very lucky to be here today:)

Our Late Christmas/New Years Card

When we finally got Betsy back from Heat Camp we got together for 8 million practice shots for our very late Christmas card. It was exhausting! Jaffray picked the pic she liked best – we did not have much say;) Here are a couple of shots, never could get all the puppies to look at the same time;)

Still Sick but Hanging in There…

Well I was almost well… and then I got another cold from someone, won’t name names but I will say that I really don’t appreciate people who go out and on and about when they know they are sick. I am the one who always gets it. Damn you JL!
Daughter Jaff is up in Oregon visiting boyfriend Andrew. She drove all that way by herself – we were fairly nervous – I mean that’s a long way – 660 miles! But she made it and I’m sure is having a blast. Did have some pretty bad news though – Between Sunday evening and Monday afternoon someone broke in to their apartment in Chico and stole much stuff. Mostly electronics and DVD’s. They broke in through the kitchen window, Kicked in bedroom doors and pretty much trashed the place. Horrible way to start the new year isn’t it? So she’s going to be stopping there on the way home, hopefully sooner rather than later. I’m just depressed the total collection of Sex in the City is gone! Rats, they are pretty sure it was kids – they stole all the alcohol from the place next door to them.
Also my car just went in to the shop today for some serious radiator trouble. It all happened last week and because of the holiday no one was around to take it too. There go the big bucks:( Oh well, it’s still a new year and I can finally breathe through my nose! Ahhhhh…
